FAMILY HISTORY

Many people wonder what is the exact cause of diabetes. The truth is it is unknown. Heredity and family history may play a role in developing type 1 diabetes and/or type 2 diabetes. Family history is more often associated with type 2 diabetes however. The age old myth that eating sweets causes diabetes is a myth, however your sweets and sugars must be limited to help control it. By being overweight, by taking like thyroid hormones, emotional stress and physical stress related to medical conditions such as pregnancy, illness and surgery, can play a role in its developing diabetes. Also, for reasons not yet known, certain ethnic groups such as Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and African Americans tend to have a higher incidence of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a serious condition, which require in many cases special diabetic supplies. Although diabetes is not yet curable, it is treatable and many can have a successful, healthy and happy life. Those who do best are people who take an active role in their own treatment. It is important to know how to manage your blood glucose levels. Treatment includes special diets, exercise, regular blood glucose testing and sometimes insulin injections and medication.
