TELEVISION

Posted in: Blog

I have been watching a lot of the television these days. One show in particular that I have grown addicted to (pun intended), is VH1s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Aside from being entertaining, in the biggest guilty pleasure sort of way, the show really does show the importance of treatment when it comes to addicts. In some ways the show just seems like an extended celebrity sleep over, with only B-list celebrities. Other times it shows how truly hard it is to overcome addiction, and the trials and tribulations that go along with trying to kick a habit. I have a good friend from high school who has been in and out of various rehabilitation facilities since the middle of our senior year of high school, and more than six years later he still struggles with his demons. From an outside perspective it is easy to judge him, and criticize him for not being able to stay sober, but after seeing the show, it is easier to see why it is so hard for him. There is one man on the show who was in Grease that has been battling addiction for decades. Seeing the physical toll that it has taken on him is sometimes overwhelming.
